Graveside Service vs. Direct Burial

Please note the different items of service included in a graveside service and a direct burial.

A graveside service usually consists of the following: picking up the deceased, taking them back to our funeral home, washing and dressing them, scheduling the service the day and time the family has requested, a casket selected by the family, use of a hearse to transport the deceased to the cemetery, supervision at the cemetery by a licensed director, and provision of all of the religious articles necessary to conduct the ceremony and observe the shiva.

A direct burial, on the other hand, consists of picking up the deceased, filing the necessary paperwork to obtain the permits necessary to bury, taking the deceased by livery (not a hearse) to the cemetery for burial at a day and time at our convenience (no scheduled time by the family) with no preparation of the deceased and no ceremony, using an alternative container provided by us or the family.
